I need some Help with something

Does anyone out there know how I could remove 2 layers of old wallpaper from a wood shadowbox without harming the wood. I received one that used to belong to my grandmother, but the wallpaper that she put into the back of it is pretty outdated. I would rather add some pretty DSP, or just leave it natural. She didn't do a very good job of placing it in either, the pieceds of paper didn't exactly fit, so she forced them to work.
